Reagan High School Acapella Show Choir Record A Television Commercial For HEBBy Melinda MattsonA s sweepstakes winners at UIL competitions for 21 years in a row and Grand Prix Champions at the International Festival in Italy in 2019, the Reagan High School choirs are accustomed to great exposure but recording a television commercial was something they did not seecoming.Reagan High School’s all girls acapellashow choir, Chantez Nouvelle, had an exciting opportunity in their already full season this winter. They performed throughout San Antonio in multiple gigs including a performance downtown at the Greater SATX quarterly investor meeting. In addition to an array of holiday songs, the choir was asked to sing H-E-B focusedlyrics to Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. The clever lyrics were written by the Greater SATX group as a tribute to H-E-B President, Craig Boyan who was rolling off as Board Chair at their last meeting of the year. The students memorized lyrics to include “Shopping around our H-E-B have a happy holiday,” and pulled off a wonderful performance for the event. Julie Bedington, Public Affairs Manager for H-E-B said, “We loved it so much we wanted to capture it to share it with our H-E-B Partners,” which is where the idea for a commercial was born.A few days later, a crew came to Reagan to record the choir singing and dancing bedecked in their classic black dresses and Santa hats. This already memorable seasonis now recorded for all to see. You may view the commercial on the NEISD FacebookOf his football experience, Cooper says, “I loved being part of a team and learning a lot about working with others, helping others, encouraging others, and showing respect.”Clearly, his coaches noticed his efforts, and nominated him for The Texas High School Coaches Association, Academic All- State Award, which he won!
