couple of years ago when Sears closed 150 stores, because retail sales were dwindling as online shopping rose. I remember my sister and me making our Santa Wish List by circling the toys in the Sears catalog. You could say that was our way of “shopping online.”
It’s interesting to me that with new technology we may change how we shop, but people don’t change when it comes to making important financial decisions. Most people spend less time researching investments for their retirement plan than deciding what vehicle to buy or planning a vacation. And yet, planning for financial independence in retirement may be one of the most important decisions you’ll ever make.
We all know it’s a priority, yet we put it off. Why is that? I believe fear and uncertainty arebigreasons.Whatwillyoudo? Howwill you define yourself? There’s actually a new norm evolving in “retirement” years. The traditional sedentary retirement is giving way to people retiring from one career and beginning another, often fulfilling lifelong dreams, like owning a business, travelling more, or giving back to the community.
too often, they have never shared with each other or even spoken out loud. This communication is the key to success. Without it how do you know if you and your spouse have the same goals, and, almost as important, how do I, your advisor, understand how best to help.
Retirement doesn’t have to be scary. Taking time to educate yourself, to ask questions, and to know where you are and where you’re going, will help to eliminate your fears. Begin planning now, and revisit those plans annually so you can stay on track. And just think, when it’s all planned out, you’ll have more time to shop for toys

Chloe Christiansen has been playing soccer for nearly a decade. Now, as senior at Reagan High School, she is determined to play each game as if it might be her last.
“With COVID-19, we do not know if or when our season may be cut short,” said Chloe. “I want to stay confident going into each match while supporting my team’s dreams.”
Chloe has high hopes that her team will go far this season, possibly even taking Districts again. She was part of the 2019 Reagan High School Varsity District Champion team.
“It was one of my proudest athletic achievements,” Chloe said. “We only conceded three goals the entire season.”
Chloe loves the game of soccer, especially the technical aspect of the sport.
“I enjoy perfecting my technique and improving my footwork because I feel most confident when I’m quick on my feet and when I have a good touch,” Chloe explained. “I also love watching soccer and seeing how different countries have different ways of playing.”
Chloe’s favorite player and inspiration on the field is Tobin Heath, an American professional soccer player for Manchester United of the English FA Women’s Super
